You are the one true holy God, and we are a perverse nation filled with every evil vice known to the human race. O LORD, how far will You let us stray from Your holy precepts before we are destroyed by the weight of our own disobedience or your righteous judgement?
It seems darkness will overtake us any day now, but your bright light can save us from our own folly.
We are living in wicked, depraved, and blasphemous times, and our society is morally bankrupt but foolishly believes in its self-proclaimed wisdom with pride. These are truly perilous times, and all-around we see lovers of self, worshippers of money, pursuers of pleasure, slanderers, boasters, and disobedient children. People are unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, and without self-control. Our culture is brutal, and our countrymen are despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, as well as lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power.
Our nation’s capital is a cesspool filled with evil, power-hungry liars. They cannot tell the truth but rather deceive even when faced with reality. They treat us as their enemy, claiming we are too ignorant to know what is best for our neighbors and ourselves. Deluded by their own lies and desires, they falsely call us traitors and terrorists.
You have been removed and extracted from government, judicial centers, schools, institutions of higher learning, and town squares across our nation. Our leaders take such pleasure in their wickedness and the adulations they receive because they have made themselves gods before their subjects. Professing to be wise, they are truly fools.
Truth told our nation consists of ungodly people who suppress facts in unrighteousness. They have become too proud to acknowledge the Holy One, creator of all that was, is, and will ever be. While the world is worshipping Your creation, they are turning their back on You, the one who fashioned and sustains it all.
Lord, our inaction and complacency make us complicit in these actions you call an abomination. However, it is worse still. Tragically, the Church has become like the world with congregation after congregation offering a superficial spa mentality to the world, one where coffee is served in lieu of Your holy word.
Priests are preaching falsehoods as truth and truths as falsehoods. Self-described apostles strut about with deceptive smiles, clothed in high-priced garments, pretending to worship you, all the while failing to stand firm upon your holy precepts and basking in their own ignorance. Many clergy will not even say that Jesus is the only way to salvation while falsely claiming many paths to Your everlasting kingdom.
Others parade around in white suits, hiding the blackness of their souls. Occupants of pulpits pretend to be called, but Your word makes clear they are unqualified for the calling.
Some of these so-called spiritual leaders are fleecing multitudes out of their last dollar, claiming that if their followers will just sow a seed into the charlatan’s ministry then their struggles will end. Unfortunately, it is these pulpit liars who bask in wealth, living in luxury and flying the world in private jets. How many hungry people could be fed, and how many naked souls could be nourished with that money?
False prophets proclaim messages amid great fanfare that are repeatedly proven wrong by time, and yet their followers make excuses and continue to worship their leader and not You, Jehovah.
Some are standing before multitudes, strutting around like rock stars. Instead of leading those before them to the Rock of Ages, they seek the adoration of the throng of admires and preach words of appeasement that entertain and soothe but never convict. Are we attending a rock concert or a worship service that causes us to bow down, fall upon bended knee before our holy God?
We have prostituted ourselves to other gods, seeking pleasure in the things of this world. Truth told, we look exactly like the world and appear nothing like children of the Living God. We are prodigal sons still wallowing with the pigs.
How have we fallen so far from Your truths? Sadly, it is a time where good is seen as evil and evil is touted as good.
We know you have destroyed cities and nations over far less, so how much longer can we continue without turning from our wickedness before justice requires You to act?
As Your Church and as the hands and feet of Christ, we are abdicating our responsibilities, allowing the government to grow bigger and bigger in an effort for it to become what is worshipped by throngs of our fellow countrymen.
We are called to feed the hungry, clothe the poor, care for widows and orphans, free the captive, and love our neighbors, but we are failing miserably at these commands. Alternatively, we have clothed ourselves in compromise and rationalization.
The blood from millions of babies yanked from the sanctuary of the womb stains our hands and lives as we fail to stand in the gap for the most innocent among us.
We no longer fill the pews across this nation; instead, church buildings sit empty while decaying or tragically being repurposed for evil.
We have lost Your word, O God. While we hold up the Bible and demand politicians pledge allegiance to it, we have ignored its truths. If honest, we also are ignorant and illiterate when it comes to Your word, Your ways.
Drive us to our knees in submission, repentance, and prayer. That is our only hope.
Our fellow countrymen claim your word is no longer true because it was written more than 2,000 years ago. Even hordes in the Church say Scripture only proclaims certain actions were counted as sin because of the culture in which it was written. If You were to speak to us today, they say, Your words would be far different, allowing all kinds of actions the Bible calls sin. However, no matter what others say, You are the same yesterday, today, and forever – Your Word is eternally true. So, when will we boldly stand up and pronounce their arguments the lies that they are? Why are we deceived by the reimagining of Your Holy Word? Apostasy grows larger as we fail to stand up on Your perfect word and stand out to a dying world.
As King David declared:
The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul;
The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple;
The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes;
Pride and arrogance are a sign of our times. We celebrate self with pictures, posts, and tweets proclaiming our great deeds or pontificating about our false wisdom. Even the posts that speak of You are self-promotions meant to garner likes, comments, and praise for ourselves from others.
We have perverted the gospel, making it a feel-good, self-affirming message that appeases the masses. Why won’t we urge people to deny self, take up their cross, and follow Christ? That is Your message, the only hope for our sinful pride. We need to heed your word from Pentecost to save ourselves from this corrupt generation.
We are but wretches when left to our own accord. When will we realize that we are all eternally condemned men, women, and children marching toward the gallows before taking our final resting place in the fiery pits of hell?
Surely You are grieved by our wretched sins – our deviant lifestyles. So why are we laughing and not weeping over our transgressions?
Burden our hearts with the wickedness that fills our lives. Convict of us our evil ways. Drive us to our knees in repentance of our wretched thoughts and actions. We have violated your law, turned our backs on Your holy precepts. Forgive us, O LORD.
Why is the Church – the bride of Christ – allowing Your name to be mocked, to be spoken in vain? Our actions are causing others to deny You. The void caused by our lack of pure and bold witness is causing others to die without knowledge of You. Why are we not grieving over these vile offenses?
Christ died that those around us might experience Your amazing grace and have eternal life, and yet we trample on His blood and crush the communion cup instead of joyfully offering it to a lost and dying world.
How long will the Church remain like the world? We seem to be blind to suffering, indifferent to lost souls, and prayerless before Your throne. Why do we let Your bride remain naked?
How are we so nonchalant and cavalier amidst so much sin and misery? Why do we have a devil-may-care attitude before your throne?
Where is our agony, our anguish, our deep and mournful cries? When will we be overwhelmingly burdened and start pulling, yanking, snatching souls from the gates of hell? How do we sit idly by while our neighbors and so-called friends march toward eternal damnation?
When will we be salt; when will our light turn on? When will we be a city set upon a hill that cannot be hidden? Ignite our fire with holy passion – fill our lamps with oil.
Force us to our knees in repentance and prayer. Overwhelm us with Your presence that we may feel your heart break for our unholy deeds as well as your deep, abiding love for the lost souls drowning in our midst.
Why do we rely on earthly things instead of heavenly ones? We are professing to be wise, but we are mere fools caught in the mire of our own folly.
When will we stop wrapping the Christian life and Church in the flag of our nation? Why does the nation impact us more than we affect it? Lord, we need You to surround our nation in rivers of living water, immerse us in Your Holy Spirit, and transform us into Your likeness. Remind us, O Holy One, that our loyalty is to Christ and not the political leaders of our day.
We steal from You by withholding our tithes and offerings, spending the money on our wretched pleasures instead. While commanded to keep the Sabbath holy, we use it instead for entertainment and pleasure.
Have we lost the faith to see people changed, made holy and righteousness by your grace? Say it is not so.
Lord, help us lean into You, wholeheartedly embrace Your precepts, answer our calling, and love as You would love. By cleansing ourselves of all unrighteousness with the blood of the Lamb and living as You require, we can change the world by using our spiritual gifts in holy service to others and help draw people of every nation, tribe, and tongue into the kingdom that You be glorified. Let us stand up on your holy precepts and stand out to a dying world.
Sound the trumpets and restore Your name before all mankind. El Shaddai, You are truly all-sufficient, and nothing happens that You do not allow. Wake up Your slumbering Church that we may glorify and magnify Your holy name throughout the world in our day.
Vindicate Your name, our Most High God. Show up and show out. Redeem our lost nation. One by one let each of us fall to our knees in repentance and find salvation and grace through the blood of the Lamb.
O, Father in Heaven, this very moment, we humble ourselves before Your holy throne, pray for your mercy, forgiveness, and redemption, seek the intimacy of Your face, turn from our wicked ways, and plant our lives in the fertile soil of Your perfect ways.
Discern our earnest prayers, forgive our sins, and heal our land.
Please hear our cry, O LORD, and revive us.
